About G.O.R.

G.O.R. is a non-profit association that manages the garden of Rohuna, located near a village of about 350 inhabitants south of Asilah on the Atlantic coast of northern Morocco. The purpose of G.O.R. is to perpetuate the garden of Rohuna, which is of great importance both botanically (the largest collection of Moroccan plants in the world) and socially. We are founded through private donations, memberships, tours and institutional founding.

Friends of Rohuna

In addition to managing the garden by paying ten workers, G.O.R. funds the F.O.R., an association that aims to combat poverty and illiteracy in the small village of Rohuna. We do this through environmental, social and cultural initiatives dedicated to the inclusion of the inhabitants themselves in the world of work, through the care of the territory and the preservation of their heritage.

Some of our goals and accomplishments include:

01

Pay two sweepers to keep the village clean and dispose of plastic.

03

Opened a road in the village center to give access to ambulances.

05

Contribute to the medical assistance of the villagers.

07

Planted an orchard in front of the village mosque and a hundred trees to provide shade in the village, and pay a gardener to water and care for them.

09

Aims to buy an old house, restore it, and dedicate part of it to the region's crafts (Jbala Berbers), part to a workshop where village girls can create items to sell (embroidered tablecloths, lampshades, etc.), and part to a café.

02

Restored the school, planted a garden there for the children, and pay a guard.

04

Restored an old house for a young couple and currently restoring a second one for another young couple.

06

Support the education of four village children whose father is ill.

08

F.O.R. aspires to contribute to the creation of a paved path to facilitate access to the village's water source.

10

A major goal is to build a small shop where visitors can buy plants propagated by our gardeners, straw animals and rag dolls made by the village youth, wooden sculptures, typical regional straw hats and bags, girls' embroideries, furniture created in the NOW ON THE OCEAN workshop, the rustic furniture workshop opened in the village fifteen years ago with the help of Umberto Pasti will also be available for purchase
